Woman who filed rape case vs Vhong Navarro named Roxanne Cabanero Acosta
lawyer has revealed the name of the woman who filed a rape complaint against actor/comedian Vhong Navarro at the Pasig City Prosecutor's Office Wednesday.
Lawyer Virgilio Batalla identified his client as Roxanne Cabañero Acosta, 24.
"Sa ngayon po alam naman natin na 2010 (naganap yung rape) sa hurisdiksyon ng Pasig. Ngunit uulitin ko, Kabayan, sana ay maintindihan niyo bilang abogado we don't have the liberty to divulge everything without the consent of our client," Batalla said in an interview on Radio DZMM's Kabayan hosted by Noli de Castro on Thursday morning.
Asked why his client only filed the case now, the lawyer replied: "Ang kasong rape ay may 20 years na prescription at kadalasang kasong nire-resolba ng ating Korte Superma ay ipinayl ng biktima na matagal na panahon. So this is natural for a victim of rape na matagalan bago mag-file."
"Naitanong namin yan ng preliminaries namin at ang sagot niya ay ngayon lang kami nagkaroon ng lakas na loob dahil may lumabas na kaso si Deniece laban kay Vhong," said Batalla referring to the rape case filed by model Deniece Cornejo against Navarro last January 29.
The lawyer said Acosta sought their help five days after the Navarro-Cornejo controversy erupted.
Batalla said his client, who personally filed the charges against Vhong, is still in Manila.
"Inaasahan din namin na itong kasong ito ay magbibigay ng daan na namolestiya kung sinuman na natatakot lumabas di lang kay Vhong in general po ito. Kahit sino po ang namolestiya ito kasi ay private crime na walang testigo sa bawat kaso ng rape. Ang ibig kong sabihin ang mga babae sa simula pa lang biktima na. Kapag nagta-trial biktima na, so itong kasong ito ang magbibigay daan upang ang mga tao katulad sa aming kliyente ay pwedeng lumabas kahit ang kanilang kalaban ay sinasabing malakas," he said.
Asked if he believes that Navarro is a powerful person, Batalla replied: "Sa aming palagay malakas na tao. Alam naman natin na kung ikukumpara natin ang biktima sa estado ng Vhong Navarro ay magkaiba."
In the interview, Batalla was also mum on issue circulating online that his client is a friend of businessman Cedric Lee, who mauled the actor-host in Taguig after Cornejo allegedly asked for help.
"Wala po tayong impormasyon na ibinigay sa atin ng aking kliyente nung siya ay dumulog sa aming opisina upang humingi ng tulong," the lawyer said.
Meanwhile, Batalla admitted that his client joined several beauty pageants including Ms. Resorts World 2010 and Miss Bikini Philippines.
In an interview with "Aquino and Abunda Tonight" on Wednesday, Navarro's lawyer Atty. Alma Mallonga downplayed the new rape complaint.
The Department of Justice's second hearing on the cases filed by Navarro and Cornejo is scheduled on February 21.
