Earthquake Shook Areas in Quezon Province

Written By Unknown on Thursday, September 27, 2012 | 3:31 AM

A 5.2-magnitude earthquake shook areas in Quezon province before noon on Thursday, a state agency reported.

The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) placed the center of the quake at 74 kilometers northeast of Jomalig town in Quezon, sending tremors at about 11:47 am.

Phivolcs clarified the moderately-strong tremor, which had a shallow depth of six kilometers, did not cause any damage or injury in the province.

The Richter Scale describes quakes with a magnitude of 5.0 to 5.9 may cause moderate to major damage to poorly constructed buildings over small regions.

The earthquake was just one of five felt across the country on Thursday.

Phivolcs reported that a 4.6-magnitude quake was felt in Governor Generoso in Davao Oriental at 2:45 am and another one measuring 4.5 magnitude in General Luna in Surigao del Norte.

It also recorded a light 4.1-magnitude earthquake in San Jose de Bauan in Western Samar and a minor 2.8-magnitude quake in Masbate.

On the average, the Philippines experience several earthquakes every day as it lies within the Pacific Ring of Fire, a region where continental plates collide causing frequent seismic and volcanic activities.

  1. Mobi - CHM is perhaps the only e-reader which supports the CHM file format.
The sites mentioned here provide basic templates that can be used for both personal and commercial publications, but aren't always readily compatible with online publishers. Even so, the registry may be corrupted, destroyed, clogged up, or infected causing Windows to be unable to read the files effectively.
