An official plot synopsis for The Amazing Spider-Man 2 has been released by Columbia Pictures.
Director Marc Webb began shooting his sequel to The Amazing Spider-Man in New York earlier this week. Andrew Garfield is back as Peter Parker and Emma Stone will reprise her role as Gwen Stacy, while Dane DeHaan has joined the cast as Parker's best friend Harry Osborn and Jamie Foxx will play a villaincalled Electro.
Columbia describes the sequel's set-up as follows: "In The Amazing Spider-Man 2, for Peter Parker (Andrew Garfield), life is busy - between taking out the bad guys as Spider-Man and spending time with the person he loves, Gwen (Emma Stone), high school graduation can't come quickly enough. Peter hasn't forgotten about the promise he made to Gwen's father to protect her by staying away – but that's a promise he just can't keep."
Continuing, the plot synopsis teases: "Things will change for Peter when a new villain, Electro (Jamie Foxx), emerges, an old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, and Peter uncovers new clues about his past."
Columbia Pictures has also announced that Webb's sequel will be the first ever Spider-Man film to be shot entirely in New York City and New York State. The Amazing Spider-Man 2 is set for release on May 2 2014, with the cast also due to include Sally Field, Paul Giamatti andShailene Woodley, who is rumoured to be appearing as Mary-Jane Watson.
