MANILA - Actress Sunshine Cruz said on Wednesday she has forgiven her husband, actor-director Cesar Montano, who is alleged to have had an affair with a young starlet.
"Siguro nga kaya nakakangiti ako at masaya ako ngayon ay nakapagpatawad na tayo," Cruz told reporters during a press conference Wednesday for her upcoming TV series, "Dugong Buhay."
"He is very generous and he is a sweet person, kaya lang lahat naman tayo sa totoo lang , lahat tayo bilang tayo ay may weakness," said Cruz, who left Montano after the actor’s alleged affair with starlet Krista Miller.
Cruz explained that it's easy for her to forgive because she's a Christian.
"Kristiyano tayo, Kristiyano tayo, mahirap magtanim ng sama ng loob, dadami ang wrinkles natin diyan," she said.
Asked if there's still a chance that she and Montano will reconcile, Cruz said: "For now, kasi mahirap, only God knows. Pero sa ngayon talaga, only God knows. I don't know pero sa ngayon talaga, kung ano ang dumarating sa akin na trabaho ay doon muna ako naka-focused, huwag muna, pabayaan na muna namin ang isa't isa."
First love never dies
Cruz declined to give a direct answer when asked if Montano is now making an effort to win her back, but admitted she still loves her husband.
"The love, I will not deny, he's my first love, my first boyfriend, he is my first everything. Kahit sa kanya, sinabi ko sa kanya, it [love] will always be there, hindi mawawala yan. Kasi talagang minahal mo at marami kang sinakripisyo para sa tao kaya hindi mo pwedeng sabihin na after a month or two ay wala na (ang love) hindi. Hindi mawawala yon at kahit pa siguro magkaroon na kami ng iba't ibang buhay ay nandiyan ang pagmamahal ko sa kanya dahil siya ang tatay ng anak namin at kamukhang kamukha niya ang bunso kong anak, mayroon akong Buboy na babae," she said.
With all she's been through, Cruz said she has learned a lot of things.
"I'm a stronger and better person. I don't have an option right now but to be independent, and nakakatuwa kasi nagta-trabaho nga ako," she said.

Cruz said Montano has not been found wanting when it comes to caring for their children.
"Yes. (We remain parents to our kids). And I'm proud to say that Buboy is a very, very good parent to our children. And bilang ganoon na mabuting ama siya, wala akong karapatan at wala akong right na ipagdamot sa kanya ang mga anak ko kasi hindi ako ganoong tao," she said.
She shared that the actor went to the graduation of their daughters and they had lunch together.
"Anak namin ang ga-graduate at daming awards ng anak namin, I'm very proud of my children kasi ang daming recognitions at of course tatay yon. Tinext siya ng principal na kailangang pumunta kami both at wala namang problema. Pinikturan ko pa siya, nagpa-picture pa kami after that, inaya niya ang kids for lunch, I was there. Wala namang problem. Ako, kagaya ng sinabi ko, kung ano ang inilagay ko sa Instagram, it comes from my heart. Kasi Buboy is really a good father, a good provider and he is really generous.
"So as a father, hindi ko ipagdadamot ang mga anak ko at anak niya din yan, kaya kapag nagta-taping kami, nasa kanya ang mga kids, wala namang problema, nagte-text kami with regards to children," she said.
Daughters' reactions
The actress admitted there was a time when her daughters also got angry with Montano but that is now over.
"There was a time na nagkaroon sila ng konting hinanakit kasi nakakapagbasa na yan, nago-google na yan so it's really hard to explain so I told them to ask their daddy about it. Ano ang gagawin ko, sisirain ko? Hindi ako ganoon. Though minsan nagi-snap tayo, nagagalit tayo at nagpo-post tayo ng kung anu-ano but I think karapatan ko yon bilang asawa dahil kahit sino yon eh ganoon ang mararamdaman," she said.
Meantime, Cruz is excited over her comeback soap "Dugong Buhay" with Ejay Falcon, which starts on Monday (April 8).
"Masaya at nakakatawa, I feel blessed, of course ABS-CBN ito, and everybody here is really very friendly and sobrang buti nila sa akin, so what more can I ask for?"
