The city, although in existence since 1565 with its foundation by Miguel Lopez de Legazpi, was established as a chartered city on February 24th, 1937, the Philippines’ fifth. This year, it will be celebrating its 77th Charter Day, where it has been declared a special non-working holiday within the city. The city government and city-based businesses have organized activities where citizens and tourists alike can participate, ranging from parades, trade fairs, civic activities, competitions, awards, and musical presentations.
