You may recall us saying the P6,499 Cherry Mobile Pulse's reign as the most affordable octa-core device in the Philippines may be short-lived. In case you missed it, the company’s newest Android release has already been one-upped by local rival SKK Mobile’s Phoenix X1, which will retail for a more palatable P5,499 when it becomes available.
The SKK phone undercuts the octa-core competition by at least P1,000 and comes mighty close to the prices of today's breed of bargain quad-core handsets—and that's as disruptive as it sounds.

On paper, it's clear the only advantage the Pulse has over the Phoenix X1 is a scratch-resistant display, though the latter has a bigger battery, which may lead to longer usage times.
Of course, a significant hardware and software difference exists between the two phones, but that's a subject for another day, as we've yet to see SKK Mobile's octa-core offering in action. Nevertheless, it's too cheap to pass up if you're looking for a smartphone that offers potentially formidable power at a price that would worry other manufacturers.
