There are two things worth mentioning here: 1) With Tite Kubo's Bleach manga ending also shortly, that leaves only One Piece as the last of the three major shonen manga of the '00s, despite the fact that it started before both other series. Naruto may have lost a bit of its luster since its heyday, but it's still one of anime/manga's biggest titles, and its loss will be a major blow to Shonen Jump, its publisher Shueisha, and likely the entire industry.
2) If you've been reading Naruto, chances are you've seen the writing on the wall, as the entire ninja world of the comic has been about to end for most of the last several years, and Naruto and his friends have to fight an increasingly absurd amount of bad guys, each of whom seemed to be secretly behind the last. I had originally thought that the series might be heading for another time skip, where we'd get to see Naruto as a young adult, if not the Hokage in charge of the village, but the series has been such a mess these last few years I'm totally fine with Kishimoto packing it in now.
