Albuera, Leyte Mayor Rolando Espinosa Sr. was killed after allegedly resisting arrest at the Baybay, Leyte Sub-Provincial Jail, early Saturday November 5, 2016.
Albuera, Leyte Police Chief Juvy Espinido said Espinosa, along with detainee Raul Yap, were killed at past 4 a.m. after an alleged gun-grabbing attempt, Radyo Inquirer 990 reported.
Espinido said Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) officers went to the prison to serve a warrant of arrest for illegal possession of firearms, when the two allegedly resisted.
Espinosa was earlier charged with possession of drugs and unlicensed firearms after a raid on his house yielded at least 11.5 kg of “shabu” and several firearms and ammunition.
