The University of the Philippines (UP) beat other premiere universities — including Harvard University, University of Oxford, and the University of Stanford — in the recent world rankings for health research citation.
UP placed seventh in terms of clinical and preclinical health research citations after garnering a score of 98.8 in the 2019 Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings.
The Philippine Council for Health Research and Development explained that citation scores “indicate the number of times a research has been cited in other research outputs.”
“The score serves as an indicator of the impact or influence of a research project which other researchers use as reference from which they can build on succeeding breakthroughs or innovations,” it added.
With the ranking, UP beat other universities in terms clinical and preclinical health research citation such as the University of Oxford which placed 17th, Stanford University which placed 19th, the University of Cambridge which placed 30th, and Harvard University which placed 37th.
Tokyo Metropolitan University topped the rankings with a score of 100, followed by the Auckland University of Technology in New Zealand, the Metropolitan Autonomous University in Mexico, the Jordan University of Science and Technology in Jordan, the University of Canberra in Australia, and Anglia Ruskin University in the United Kingdom.
Meanwhile, UP ranked in the 126th to 150th spot in the overall rankings of universities in the fields of medicine, dentistry, and other health subjects.
