“Sa nangyaari ngayon na lumilipat ang mga Kapamilya at Kapuso sa mga pelikula, lahat napag-uuusapan,” she told members of media at the presscon of her upcoming romance comedy, “My Lady Boss.”
Beyond network politics, what matters more to Marian is the quality of project.
“Kung maganda ang proyekto, hindi ako mapipigilan kung anong mangyayari sa career ko.”
Marian is confident she won’t have a hard time talking to GMA Films and Regal if a good project comes along and they won’t stop her from doing what’s good her career.
Just as important for her are her co-stars.
Vilma Santos fan
Marian acted like a Vilmanian when she recalled how it was working with Vilma Santos in the indie film “Ekstra, The Bit Player.” Marian played a guest role in the said film.
“Hihimatayin ako sa sobrang sweet at sobrang bait niya (Vilma),” gushes Marian. “Siya pa ang pumupunta sa room ko at magtatanong kung okay ako, kung kumain na ako.”
Marian proudly relates that she and Vilma have become textmates since.
Richard Gutierrez, her leading man in “My Lady Boss,” also happens to be one of Marian’s favorite co-stars. The two, whose last team-up was in the box-office hit “My Best Friend’s Girlfriend” five years ago, can talk about anything on the set.
“Nagtatawanan kami kahit serious yung scenes,” relates Marian.
The result is a bond that makes it easy for them to do intimate scenes in “My Lady Boss,” where Marian plays the title role and Richard portrays her assistant.
Marian had no qualms paying lip service to Richard, who happens to be the third actor she’s had a kissing scene with, after her boyfriend Dingdong Dantes and Dennis Trillo. That’s not too many, considering that she’s been in showbiz for seven years now.
'Lip service'
Why did the kissing scene between her and Richard happen only now, not when they did their previous starrer?
“Nag-mature na kami,” Marian replies. “May mga eksena na hindi naming nagawa noon na nagagawa na naming ngayon.”
That maturity lets Marian shrug off the usual intrigues that are part of her job. She knows not all people are pleased that she won Best Actress in Enpress’ (Entertainment Press Society Inc,) Golden Screen TV Awards.

Instead of feeling upset, Marian is philosophical about it.
“May reaksyon ang mga tao sa lahat ng nananalo. Immune na ako sa sistema. Hindi maiiwasan yan.”
That’s not the Marian we know years back, when she was panned for upsetting her co-stars. Marian today is calmer, happier. Her glow comes from within. And it makes her beautiful, inside and out.
“My Lady Boss” opens April 10 in cinemas nationwide.
