A quake hit off the coast of Surigao on Monday morning, state seismologists said, the latest in over half a dozen such quakes since last week.
The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said the quake was recorded at 9:04 a.m., and was tectonic in origin.
It said the epicenter was estimated at 92 km northeast of Cortes in Surigao del Sur.
No damage or aftershock was expected, Phivolcs said.
The United States Geological Survey (USGS) said the quake occurred near:
51 km east-northeast of Cortes
64 km northeast of Tandag
111 km north-northeast of Lianga
111 km east of Placer
833 km southeast of Manila
No less than 12 earthquakes of magnitude 5 or greater have been recorded by the USGS in Mindanao since May 30. Of these, eight have been the same general area off Cortes. No tsunamis, damage, or casualties have been reported. (gmanews)
