BREAKING NEWS: Powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake hit the country of Nepal anew on May 12, 2015. According to USGS that the strong quake's epicenter is Namche Bazar town, near Mt. Everest. The latest tremor was felt as far away as the Indian capital Delhi.

Officials are now assessing the situation and damages and casualties will still be validated.

A second earthquake above magnitude 7 has hit Nepal within a month after a 7.4 quake struck the Nepal-Tibet border on Tuesday.

The US Geological Survey said the quake struck near the bast camp for Mount Everest, about 80km east of Kathmandu, Nepal, and 20km south-east of Zham, China.

Wire agencies reported the quake cause people to run out of buildings in the Nepalese capital of Kathmandu and shook structures as far away as Delhi in India.

The quake comes as the country is still struggling to recover from a devastating 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck last month on April 25, killing more than 8,000 people and injuring twice that number.

The Joint Australian Tsunami Warning Centre said it detected a magnitude 5.6 earthquake at 5:22pm AEST in the Banda Sea off Indonesia, that was felt near Darwin, Australia.

It issued a "no tsunami threat" alert to the Australian mainland, islands and territories.
