Authorities and other government agencies were alerted and rushing to the seen to provide comfort or needs to those affected. Chilean government recorded one death, a 25-year-old woman has died in Illapel, a town on the coast about 46km from where the earthquake hit.
She was reportedly killed by a falling wall. Another 20 have been injured.

U.S. officials said the quake struck just offshore in the Pacific at 7:54 p.m. and was centered about 141 miles (228 kilometers) north-northwest of Santiago. It said the quake was 4.8 miles (5 kilometers) below the surface.
